The Ks
The
Ks embody the sounds of the letter K, crunching and crying
out songs of work, heartbreak and lust. They sound at
times like James Brown meeting Pavement (more accurately,
Stephen Malkmus fronting the JBs); late period Elvis Presley
and The New Pornographers, Tom Waits and the Clash, The
Beatles and The Pixies.
"The
Ks represent the undeniable bliss of superior song-craft
executed brilliantly. The guitars and horns rumble with
an old school accessibility that almost never belies the
ingenuity behind the arrangements. Monumental." -Jacob
Bartelby, Smart Magazine

titled Timing
Is Everything
with The
Rick Parker Collective and Steve Coleman and 5
Elements
Experimenter,
innovator, philosopher and inspiring transmitter of genre
bending explorations into what music can do, Steve
Coleman has long been appreciated for his original
vision in music. Coming up through the ranks playing with
Sam Rivers, Dave Holland, and Michael Brecker, and then
forming his own groups with luminaries such as Greg Osbly,
Graham Haynes and Ravi Coltrane, Coleman coalesced his
version of reality around a music concept he coined as
M-Base.

Chronicles
and Other Things with Michel Auder
Michel
Auder's cinema verité style video memoirs have
simultaneously documented his personal domestic environment
and that of the New York art world, from the glitterati
of Andy Warhol's Factory in the late-1960s to today.
In Auder's video diaries, life and art are not necessarily
discrete entities, and are often intensely intertwined.
His work functions as a form of visual autobiography,
documenting the self in relation to others, while also
bringing to attention the way technologies of representation
mediate between individual and social histories.
Works
to be screened: Chelsea Girls with Andy Warhol, 1971-76,
88 min, video, 15 min excerpt; Annie Sprinkle, 1981,
33 min, video; The Games: Olympic Variations, 1984,
22 min, video; The Conversation, Brooklyn 2003, 4 min,
video; My Last Bag of Heroin (for real) 1986, 4 min,
video; My First Pipe of Opium since 1973, Mexico November
2004 7 min, video
Michel
Auder will introduce the program and take questions
afterwards.
