Earl Dax presents...

ART JAM: a monthly performance salon
with Sxip Shirey, Carry Curran, Discoteca Flaming Star, Layard Thompson and video by Joshua Thorson

"Promo-trixie Earl Dax’s third Tuesdays at the Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg are quickly turning into fab confabs of gender-fucking music-oriented performance art; messy nights where caburlesque meets staunch politik-ing.." - New York Press

Earl Dax kicks off a new season of his acclaimed monthly performance salon with an all-star ART JAM tonight.

ART JAM features a mix of innovative artists sure to appeal to the adventurous palate! Illuminescent Orchestri's SXIP SHIREY plays his unique music on a variety of traditional and re-imagined instruments, such as Mutant Harmonicas, the Industrial Flute, and the Obnoxiophon. Taking things one step further, Berlin-based DISCOTECA FLAMING STAR parlays idolatry and obsession with fame into a conceptual music project that "plays at" being a rock band (much as the Dazzle Dancers play at being a dance troupe). CARY CURRAN (aka Cherry Dazzle) returns to New York after touring Europe with Big Art Group's "House of No More." Curran debuts a sneak peak of her new solo work-in-progress. Modern dancer and choreographer LAYARD THOMPSON and a new work by video artist JOSHUA THORSON round out the evening.

FALL BACK...
with Just About To Burn, Dina Dean, and Jaymay

Jaymay - Destined to join the ranks of remembered singer/songwriters, JAYMAY's exquisite music is an amalgam of modern folk, acoustic pop and jazz. Her tunes are emotional and intelligent; her voice flesh-raising. JAYMAY's live shows are engaging and memorable; no song performed the same way twice. www.jaymaymusic.com

Dina Dean - Singer songwriter whose style is rooted in the Americana musical idioms that she uses as a point of departure. Her enchanting and distinct 'old soul' voice and poetic narrative style evoke the spirit of the early blues, country, jazz and gospel traditions, yet she unites and transforms these 'forces' into something elusive and fresh. She is often called a cross between Bob Dylan and Billie Holliday - but one listen will convince you that she is truly one of a kind.

Just About to Burn - They make the kind of music that feeds-off of a pure desire to just enjoy hooky catchy, acoustic tunes. It's a sound that owes as much to old school country-pop, rhythm and blues, and pop music as it does to the band's front-man, PALEFACE's punk-rock caustic New York City roots. www.justabouttoburn.com
