Smut

Galapagos's series of provocative performance presents Mike Daisey (pictured) with Stucky and Murray, Michael Cyril Creighton, and Aaron Lawry. It's hosted by Desiree Burch.

Mike Daisey has been called “the master storyteller” by The New York Times. Heworks completely extemporaneously, always without a script, telling and re-telling stories before live audiences night after night so that every performance is a unique event. It is through this provocative process that all his monologues are created, including his international phenomenon 21 Dog Years. That monologue, about working for the internet giant Amazon.com, played six months Off-Broadway before touring regional theaters across the United States and around the world. Currently he’s a commentator for National Public Radio’s Day To Day, a contributor to the New York Times Magazine, Slate, and the National Lampoon Radio Hour.

Ocularis presents
Those Loved By God: Early Sixpack Films

For nearly fifteen years, Sixpackfilm has worked to secure an international audience for Austrian film and video art, both through festival distribution and a rental catalogue that showcases the rich avant-garde tradition within its national cinema. Our program at Ocularis will, in turn, offer a sample of the exciting range of media production that characterized their work in the 1990s, featuring Johannes Holzhausen’s Those Loved by God, an affecting documentary portrait of a Viennese couple, Johannes Hammel’s Black Sun, an adaptation of Samuel R. Delany’s meta-gendered sci-fi novel, and Franziska, a flickering exercise in voyeuristic abstraction by Thomas Draschan.

Work to be screened:
Franziska, Thomas Draschan, 1996, 5 min, 16mm
Those Loved by God, Johannes Holzhausen, 1992, 35 min, 16mm
Black Sun, Johannes Hammel, 1992, 26 min, 16mm

MKGroove Orchestra presents Monday Night Burlesque

Funk music and burlesque performance. Together at last. The MK Groove Orchestra lays down the tight instumentals while sexy burlesque dancers strut their stuff just for you.

"Comprised of a rotating ensemble of approximately 13 members, they encompass a massive entirety of sound. Possessing 8 horns, MK Groove can become full-blown chaotic polyphony one moment and straight funk the next. Flexibility and resourcefulness characterize this young band with a tremendous knack for song writing and structure and the often difficult task of improvising in a large band setting." -The Spectrum, University of Buffalo

The Fabulous Entourage
with The Lovetones and Cheese on Bread
:
A Special Halloween Show!

New York based glam rockers The Fabulous Entourage (top pic) have been described as a combination of "art-house punk and sugar-coated pop" by The New York Press. Compared to Devo by The New York Times and The B52's by LA Splash Magazine, this keyboard/ bass/ drum trio, joined by two Supremes-style female vocalists, has forged a reputation for lush arrangements, throbbing beats, and glam-rock theatrics. www.fabulousentourage.com

Tonight they host a blowout evening of Halloween themed music and performance! Also featuring The Lovetones (TeePee Records - middle pic), and Cheese on Bread.

"If you're looking for an ultimate half-and-half fusion of John Lennon with early-1970s David Bowie, The Lovetones' second album is one of the closer approximations that's apt to appear. " -All Music Guide
www.thelovetones.com

"Their songs have titles like I Like Cheese and How Long Have You Been Haitian? Their subjects include penguins' mating habits and the Atkins diet. The anti-folk crowd loves them, and they've got one killer dance dis in (You're Just a) Gucci Model On paper, it's easy for Cheese on Bread to be mistaken for a novelty
act. But they've got so much more heart than that." -City Paper
